San Antonio Bay Partnership leads and inspires the effort to cleaner, healthier, productive bays.

In the fall of 2020, San Antonio Bay Partnership began organizing a Shorelines Cleanup around the Port O’Connor area. Much like the Abandoned Crab Trap Cleanup efforts, volunteers head out in boats & kayaks to small island shorelines throughout San Antonio, Epiritu Santo, and Matagorda Bay. Volunteers are provided gloves and bags then walk or paddle picking up trash. Trash is often hidden in the cord grass and mangroves, it can be a difficult task. But our volunteers know they make an impact because they log each item into a phone app. Data helps inform not only our impact, but the source of the problem. Plastic bottles are by far the most common item followed by plastic pieces, aluminum cans and plastic bags.

Plan to join us as we Remove Awful Trash from shorelines throughout our bays. Opportunities available for groups throughout the week. Volunteers will be invited to Celebrate a Cleaner Bay volunteer appreciation dinner on Saturday, September 26.

The 2025 Shorelines Cleanup was a huge success. Our bays are cleaner because of the 170 participants who removed trash throughout the week of October 13 – 18.
