Paddle to the Pass

On Sunday, June 8, 2014  the San Antonio Bay Partnership &  Port O’Connor Chamber of Commerce hosted our first paddling event, Paddle to the Pass to raise funds for the new pavilion at King Fisher Beach Park . Kayakers met at King Fisher Park with the intention of launching but prevailing winds changed the launch site to Clark’s Marina. Lead by local guide Alan Raby and supported by the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the group paddled across the ICWW and into Fisherman’s cut. Biologist and TPWD law enforcement officer David Heineke helped guide and support members of the group which included people from Victoria & Palacious. With several rest stops along way paddlers muscled their way open bay from the old coast guard station at Saluria to the tip of the J-hook where a hearty lunch awaited. As the paddlers relaxed and refueled Allan Berger presented the history and ecology of Pass Cavallo. Hydrologic changes occuring in the pass as well as the significance the pass has played in several historial events. The paddlers enjoyed the assistance given by the tail wind as they returned to Port O’Connor.
